Several months ago, I received an anonymous email from a very polite lady requesting a mantra to help her husband cope with his very stressful job. I immediately thought of a shanti mantra (mantra for peace) that I always use during pūjā. I typed it up for her in Sanskrit and English, and translated it for her so she could concentrate on the meaning as she recited it. I also recorded an MP3 and sent it to her, so she would have some idea of how to pronounce it.

I never heard back from her, so I don’t even know for sure if she received the mantra, but I hope she did and that it has been of some help to her and her husband.

ॐ शान्तानि पूर्वरूपाणि शान्तं नोऽस्तु कृताकृतम् ।
शान्तं भूतं च भव्यं च सर्वमेव शमस्तु नः ॥

oṃ śāntāni pūrvarūpāṇi śāntaṃ no’stu kṛtākṛtam
śāntaṃ bhūtaṃ ca bhavyaṃ ca sarvameva śamastu naḥ

Peace existed before form (before creation), peace cannot be made nor unmade. Peace to all that has existed, is existing now, and will exist in the future, and peace to me as well.

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ

Peace, Peace, Peace
